It's Too Loud...

...and I'm too old!! *grin* John and I just spent the weekend with his bike club at the National Convention and I've made the startling discovery that music can indeed be too damned loud. Granted, this was music very marginal sense, a bar band doing bad punk covers of bad 80's tunes but still. I've also been paying a lot of attention these days to commercials featuring cosmetic products that "reduce, diminish, or minimize the appearence of...". I won't even get into the horror of overhead flourescent lighting and bathroom mirrors. All in all though, it was a good weekend and I think the most important part was that Judy learned a valuable lesson and will listen to me from now on. If only everyone would do that, the world would be a better place. *koff*

We had some work done on the house, and now have a hot water heater that allows us to have warm water for a whole shower. You don't realize how important the little things are in life until you don't have them. We also sealed the hole in the attic that was providing a gateway for the squirrels and hopefully now our boxes and assorted accumulated junk won't be reduced to shreds. We did manage to find one stray and hav-a-hearted the little vermin. He was released back into the wild...in a park all the way across town.

There really isn't much to say about the Columbia Shuttle. Seven more astronauts were lost and now we wait to find out why the ship failed. We watched CNN and the repeated replays of the video showing the disintegration of Columbia and it brought back memories of Challenger.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of- wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up, up the long, delirious burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never Lark, or even Eagle flew - And while with silent lifting mind, I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

- John Gillespie Magee, Jr, 1922-1944

See ya next week...
